Magic The Gathering card singles! Cards from Alpha, Beta, Arabian Nights and more.
Limited Edition Alpha (Alpha for short) premiered in a limited release at Origins Game Fair in 1993. These cards have no expansion symbol and no copyright date. Art credits are listed at the bottom of the card.
Limited Edition Beta, technically the second part of the first print run of Magic: The Gathering (behind Alpha). Beta included two cards that were accidentally left out of Alpha (Circle of Protection: Black and Volcanic Island) and included a third art variation for each of the 5 basic lands.
Five months after the release of the basic game, Arabian Nights was the first expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The flavour of the cards was based on the characters, stories, and objects in the classic Middle Eastern tales, 1001 Arabian Nights.
Featuring some of the most powerful cards ever printed, like Library of Alexandria and Bazaar of Baghdad, Arabian Nights was a fitting beginning to the long tradition that is Magic: The Gathering expansion sets.
The second Magic expansion, Antiquities; was released shortly after Arabian Nights. The tale of Urza and Mishra represented in this 100-card set was the first story to be supported by both the functionality and flavour of the cards. The set was created by the group of students at the University of Pennsylvania that had helped Richard Garfield design the original game.
